Maker Moment // Her Tern Half Marathon

It's that time of the year! If you are traveling to Seattle this summer or you are already a local and you happen to visit the Fresh Tangerine showroom in Pioneer Square, you will find our entire team working away hand making 1500 custom bracelets. For what?

In Anchorage, Alaska, a race occurs once a year that is entirely focused on empowering the woman of the community. It is a boutique race called the Her Tern Half Marathon and it occurs in mid-July. The race is hosted by a local clothing boutique, Her Tern, and their parent company, Skinny Raven Sports. The race is designed to be fun, less competitive and tailored to women.

Her Tern holds a special place in the heart of owner, Kim Kogane, because it was one of Fresh Tangerine's very first stockists. For the past 2 years, Her Tern has asked Fresh Tangerine to design the official race bracelet and we are about to start production on this year's bracelet. The bracelets are given out to each participant instead of a medal and are designed to be collected over the years and worn every day.

Each year a Bracelet Unveiling Party is held at the Her Tern Boutique where the design of the Bracelet is revealed to the participants on June 12th. On this night the participants vote for the "One Lucky Guy" who gets to join all of the ladies for the run.

The first bracelet in 2013 was unveiled and ended up being a total hit.

The 2014 bracelet had an oxidized sterling silver chain with a druzy quartz stone. The HTH tag was hand hammered and assembled at the new Seattle studio. There is an option to order a matching necklace for each of the participants.
